The Dr. Keith Waddell Foundation (DKWF) received part of the financial assistance from Bronwen andBrian Mills Educational Trust to empower disadvantaged women and girls with market-driven
vocational skills and livelihood support, foster self-sufficiency and socio-economic resilience in South Western Uganda by 2026-2027.
The engagement aimed
- To support the transition from vocational training to self-employment.
- To enhance financial independence and resilience among beneficiaries
More than 100 women, girls received
- skills development such as trainings,
- mentorship programs like training on business plan and the establishment of agricultural gardens.
- empowerment of beneficiaries with the knowledge, confidence, and resources needed to improve their livelihoods and advocate for their rights.
The Beneficiaries were trained in areas that included
- Fashion and Design (Tailoring)
- building and construction
- saloon
They exhibited the skills learnt and they were as well supported with start up equipment.
The team concluded by calling for support of the local leadership by ensuring that all objectives are effectively met.
During this meeting, both local government leaders and Kanywamaizi Vocational Institute Management, pledged full support to the project, encouraged community participation, and emphasized collaboration.
They appreciated the foundation and the donor for their generousheart and willingness to choose their sub-county, which has many school dropouts and an influx of refugees from the surrounding refugee settlements.
50% of the trained women and girls have already started their own enterprises
